Troubleshooting MCP Connectors ⛑️
We want your AI tools and Haystack working together seamlessly, so we’ve gathered the most common connector issues and how to fix them. Start with a quick reconnect, which solves most problems, and if you’re still stuck, we’re always happy to help.
📌 MCP integrations are an add-on service that are licensed separately from the core intranet platform. If you're eager to use an MCP integration, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager (CSM) or support@haystackteam.com for more details.

Start Here: Disconnect and Reconnect
Most connector issues are fixed by refreshing the connection. This is especially true after a Haystack update, because reconnecting loads the latest tools.
- In your AI tool, open its connector or app settings.
- Find Haystack MCP Search and Write and choose Disconnect (or Uninstall).
- Connect it again and sign in with your Haystack account, using your workspace name (the word before ".haystack.so").
- Start a new chat and try again.
💡 Some tools, like ChatGPT, may need the connector fully uninstalled and reinstalled before new tools appear.
Not Sure What Your Connector Can Do? Just Ask
It sounds silly but your AI assistant knows what the Haystack connector can do. Try asking:
- "What can you do with the Haystack connector?"
- "Which Haystack tools do you have access to right now?"
If it only lists search tools, see "I can't create posts or pages" below.
Common Issues
-
"Could not authorize" or "please re-authenticate" Your sign-in has expired or been revoked. Disconnect and reconnect the connector (see Start Here).
-
I can't find the Haystack connector - Search your AI tool's connector directory for "Haystack." - On business or enterprise plans, an admin may need to allow the connector for your organization first. - In Microsoft Copilot, Haystack is added inside an agent in Copilot Studio, under Tools, then Model Context Protocol. See Connecting Haystack to Microsoft Copilot via MCP. - Some AI tools only offer connectors on paid plans. Check with your IT team.
-
I can't create posts or pages - Content creation may not be on yet for your workspace. Ask your CSM. - The write tools may be turned off. Check your connector's tool settings in your AI tool. Your AI tool admin can also block tools for everyone in your organization. - Your connector needs a refresh. Disconnect and reconnect so the newest tools load. - Seeing "search" only in your AI tool's connector directory? That's expected. Some directory listings describe search only, even though the connector supports both search and creation.
-
My assistant says I can't post in a group You can only post in groups where you have posting permission in Haystack. Ask "Can I post in the [group name] group?" and your assistant will check that specific group. If you need access, contact the group owner or your Workspace Admin.
-
I saved a draft, and now my assistant can't publish it That's expected. Drafts are published from Haystack. Open the draft from the link your assistant gave you, or find it in your drafts in Haystack, and publish it there.
-
A page I know exists isn't showing up in search - Check that you can open it in Haystack. Your assistant only sees content you have permission to see. - Private pages and unpublished drafts belonging to other people won't appear. - Try naming the content type and title: "Find the knowledge page called Travel Policy."
-
Slack stopped working after the update, or says to contact my admin Slack MCP needs an additional permission. A Haystack Workspace Admin needs to turn the Slack integration off and on again in Haystack, then approve the new permission. See Connecting Haystack to Slack via MCP. If your workspace isn't licensed for MCP, Slack will tell users to contact their admin.
-
My post's settings aren't what I wanted Posts created from your AI tool use your workspace's default settings for author, comments, reactions, notifications, and more. Save posts as drafts, then adjust settings in Haystack before publishing.
Best Practices
- Reconnect after updates: When Haystack announces new MCP tools, reconnect your connector to load them.
- Use drafts first: Save new posts as drafts until your team is comfortable with the creation tools.
- Be specific: Name the content type, title, or group. "Find the PTO policy page" works better than "PTO."
- Start a new chat when something seems off: A fresh conversation picks up your latest connector settings.
- Keep Haystack current: Your assistant's answers are only as fresh as your Haystack content.
- Keep credentials private: Always sign in through the official Haystack login window. Never paste passwords or tokens into a chat.
