Admins can now build custom folders and subfolders, drag and drop folders into one another, and reuse the same folder across multiple dropdowns. Now your navigation can match how your team actually finds things. 📣 **Who can do this?** Only users with **Workspace Admin** permissions can update the header navigation, and changes can only be made from the **Admin Console**. Click the **dropdown arrow** in the top right corner and select **Admin Console**. 2. In the left-hand menu, click **Customize Navigation**. --- ##### Best Practice When Creating Folders Build **one folder at a time**, from start to finish: 1. Create your folder and rename it. 2. Add all of its subfolders and components. (Remember, every folder needs **[at least one component](https://support.haystackteam.com/en/nesting-folders-in-your-header-navigation-#at-least-one-component)** before you can save!) 3. **Collapse** the folder once it’s complete. 4. Move on to your next folder. --- ##### Creating Custom Folders and Subfolders ##### Creating Folders 1. Scroll to the bottom of the **Customize Navigation** page and select **Create Folder**. 2. Your new folder will appear as **Untitled**. 3. Click the **\[...\]** to the right of the folder and select ✏️ **Rename**. 4. Give it a clear, easy-to-scan name (e.g., “HR” or “IT Help”). ⚠️ **Every folder needs [at least one component](https://support.haystackteam.com/en/nesting-folders-in-your-header-navigation-#at-least-one-component).** You won’t be able to save your navigation if any folder is empty. Before saving, make sure each folder has at least one Workspace Feature or Link added with **Add Component**. ##### Adding a Subfolder 1. Find the folder you want to add a subfolder under. 2. Click the **\[...\]** to the right of the folder name and select **Add Folder**. 3. Rename your new subfolder using the **\[...\]** \> ✏️ **Rename**, just like above. 4. Add links or Workspace Features to any folder or subfolder with **Add Component**. --- ##### Dragging and Dropping Folders 1. Click and hold the folder you want to move. 2. Drag it onto the folder you want to nest it under, then release. 3. To pull a folder back out, drag it back to the top level of the dropdown. --- ##### Adding the Same Folder to Multiple Dropdowns Some resources belong in more than one place, like a “Benefits” folder that fits under both **HR** and **New Hire Resources**. You can now add that same folder to as many dropdowns as you need without rebuilding it each time. --- ##### Removing a Folder To remove a folder, click the **\[...\]** to the right of the folder name and select **Remove**. > 🛑 **Heads up:** Once you remove a folder and click **Save**, it **cannot be restored**. Double-check before saving! --- ##### CRITICAL STEP: Save Your Changes 🛑 **Your changes will not be applied until you click Save.** Once your navigation looks the way you want, click the **Save** button at the top of the Admin Console. If you leave the page without saving, your updates will be lost. **Is the Save button greyed out?** This means at least one of your folders is empty. Empty folders can’t be saved, so either add a component to the empty folder or remove it, and the **Save** button will become clickable again. --- ##### Video Tutorial --- ##### FAQs **Why can’t I save an empty folder?** Empty folders would show up in your navigation with nothing for your team to click, so every folder needs **at least one component** *(see below for the two types of components: Workspace Features and Links)* before you can save. If you’re building out a folder for later, add at least one component you know will belong there (like a link to a related Haystack page), and you can fill in the rest when you’re ready. **What’s a Workspace Feature?** Workspace Features are built-in Haystack pages, like the **Org Chart**, **Glossary**, **Map**, or **Events**. You can add the same Workspace Feature to multiple places, including multiple dropdowns, so your team can find it wherever they look first. **What’s a Link component?** A **Link** component lets you add any URL to a dropdown, whether it’s a Haystack page or an external website. It’s perfect for the tools your team visits all the time. For example, you could add a “Payroll” link to your company’s payroll portal (like ADP or Workday) under your **HR** folder, so your team doesn’t have to dig for a bookmark. **Can non-admins edit the navigation?** No. Only Workspace Admins can make changes, and only from the Admin Console. **Will everyone see my changes right away?** Yes. Once you click **Save**, the updated navigation is live for everyone in your workspace. **Can I show different navigation to different groups?** Not yet.
