Embedding Files from Google Drive 📄✨
📌 Content creation permissions are set by your admins, so if you're not sure if you have the ability to create or edit content, just reach out to them or our support team at support@haystackteam.com for a quick check.
A Few Fun Facts About Google Drive Embeds
Here are some cool things to keep in mind about embedding files from Drive:
-
Permissions Are Respected: Haystack is smart! It respects the permissions you've set in Google Drive. If a teammate doesn't have access to the original file in Drive, they won't be able to see the embed in Haystack. Instead, they'll see a little "permission denied" screen.
-
Updates Happen Automatically: This is the best part! When you make a change to a document in Google Drive, the embed in Haystack updates automatically in near-real time. That means no extra work for you—it's super simple!
How to Embed a Google Drive File
Ready to add a file? Just follow these simple steps!
First, in Google Drive:
-
Find the document (Doc, Sheet, Slide, etc.) you want to embed.
-
Click the Share button in the top right corner.
-
In the share menu, set the permissions you want and then click Copy Link.

Keep this link copied—you'll need it in a second!
Then, in Haystack:
-
Start a new post, page, or event.
-
Click on a new line in the content body and type a forward slash key (/) on your keyboard. This will open the content editor.
-
Scroll down and click on the Google Drive option.
-
Paste the link you just copied into the "Add URL or Embed Code" text box.

5. Click Save. You'll see your document magically appear right in your content!
6. You can easily resize the embed by clicking and dragging the black resize bar at the bottom.

Continue composing the rest of your content, and then hit publish!
Go show off those beautiful, automatically updating documents! Happy embedding! 🤗
