Everything You Need To Know About Dashboard and Navigation Customization 🎨

Get to Know Your Dashboard

The dashboard is built from unique cards, each housing different information and activities. You can think of this as playing with digital building blocks!

The cards available to you are listed below. We add to your card library frequently, so check your workspace for the latest updates.

  • Featured Post Carousel: Showcase featured posts (in sizes small, medium, and large)

  • Recent Posts: See recent posts from your groups

  • Upcoming Events: See upcoming events from your groups

  • Name Game: Put names to faces and climb the leaderboard

  • Upcoming Anniversaries: See and celebrate upcoming work anniversaries

  • Upcoming Birthdays: See and celebrate upcoming birthdays

  • New Hires: Get to know new hires

  • Links: See important links set by workspace admins

  • Resources: See top resources from your All Company group

  • Static Card: Add a title and text

  • Banner: This scrolling, narrow banner is a perfect place for VIP announcements.

  • Static Image: Showcase a static image on your dashboard (in sizes small, medium, and large)

  • Map Location: A map-view card focused on the address of your choice

  • Featured Events: A scrollable list of events featured by workspace admins

  • Featured Group: Highlight and showcase a group from your workspace

  • Featured Person: Highlight and showcase a team member from your workspace

  • Countdown: A countdown for an upcoming event

  • Event Calendar: See upcoming events from your groups

  • Search: Search for any content across the workspace

  • Simple Polls: Ask a question and view the results

Adding and Hiding Cards

  1. Adding Cards: Scroll to the very bottom of your dashboard and click the Add Card button. Choose what you want from the library.



  2. Hiding Cards: If a card isn't serving its purpose, click the three-dot button in the top right corner of the card and select Hide.


Rearranging and Resizing

  • Rearranging: To drag and drop, simply click and hold on any card and drag it horizontally or vertically to rearrange the order.

  • Cards in motion will appear transparent until dropped into place.


    Resizing: Cards marked with S, M, or L (Small, Medium, Large) can be resized. Click the three-dot button and choose the size that best fits your layout.

    • S means 1/3 width of the dashboard

    • M means 2/3 width of the dashboard

    • L means the full width of the dashboard

The Scrolling Banner

The Banner is a unique, narrow card that automatically scrolls—perfect for major VIP announcements that need to stand out.

  1. Add the Banner: Scroll to the bottom and click Add Card, then select the Banner option.

  2. Set Up: Click the three-dot button on the banner and select Setup.

  3. Customize: Choose a color (including a bright red Haystack Danger for emergencies), add a link if needed, and write your text (you have a max of 280 characters, but emojis are welcome!).

  4. Click Save.

A few additional notes:

  • The banner card has a max of 280 characters, but you can include emojis!

  • The text in a banner can be updated as many times as you'd like

  • You can add an unlimited amount of banners to the dashboard


Customizing Your Workspace Navigation

 

The navigation bar at the very top of your workspace is the user's primary guide. Customizing it helps ensure everyone uses the terminology your team recognizes and finds those crucial internal and external links quickly.

Organizing Links and Dropdowns

This is managed through your Admin Console under the Customize Navigation tab. Here, you can:

  • Organize and Name: Change the names of the main links and folders (dropdowns) to fit your team's lingo.

  • Link Components: Add internal Haystack pages or links to external tools into any of your dropdown menus.

Setting Your Primary (Default) Page

The Primary Page is the very first page users see when they sign in or click your workspace logo.

  1. Click the dropdown arrow in the top right corner and select Admin Console.

  2. In the lefthand menu, click Customize Navigation.

  3. Use the dropdown menu at the top of the page to select the page you want to set as the default (most teams leave this as the Dashboard).

  4. Click Save at the bottom of the page!

Getting to Know Your Dashboard

Your dashboard is made up of a number of unique cards, each of which houses different information, uploaded content, or activity from across your workspace.


There are an enormous number of dashboard cards available to you, including some of our favorites below. We add to your card library frequently, so check your workspace for the latest updates.

  • Post Carousel: Showcase featured posts in a visual news carousel 

  • Name Game: Put names to faces and climb the leaderboard in this fun interactive game

  • Upcoming Anniversaries: See and celebrate team members with upcoming work anniversaries

  • Banner: This scrolling, narrow banner—news ticker styles—is a perfect place for VIP announcements

  • Static Image: Showcase a static image on your dashboard (in sizes small, medium, and large)

  • Countdown: Add a countdown for an upcoming event, product launch, or big announcement
  • Simple Polls: Add an interactive poll for serious questions or fun internal debates. Is a hot dog indeed a sandwich?
  • Video: Embed a video from your favorite streaming service. We love sharing sizzle reels, brand announcements, and all-hands recordings.
  • Tableau and Looker: Embed your business ops dashboard to keep your team aligned.

Adding a Card to Your Dashboard

You are welcome to add as many cards as you'd like to your dashboard. We like to add a nice blend of news, social, and static information. Our most engaged teams update their dashboards at least once a month to keep the content fresh and interesting.

To add cards to your dashboard:

  1. Scroll to the bottom of your dashboard and click + Add a Card

  2. Click +Add on the card type you'd like to add to your dashboard. Note that some cards can be added multiple times, like the static card. 



    This will automatically add the card to the bottom of your dashboard where you will be able to configure the card settings and move it to a new location on your dashboard if you're like. See below for more details on these steps. 

Configuring Your Dashboard Cards

Many of your dashboard cards—like the cards for polls, video embeds, photo galleries, and more—are configurable and customizable. To configure these cards:

  1. Find the dashboard card you'd like to configure
  2. Hover over the card to display the three-dot button. 
  3. Click the three-dot button and select Set Up


  4. Configure your card as needed and don't forget to click Save

Resizing Your Dashboard Cards

Some of your dashboard cards—like the cards for the post carousel, video embeds, and photo gallery—can be resized to best fit your needs. To resize these cards:

  1. Find the dashboard card you'd like to configure
  2. Hover over the card to display and then click the three-dot button.
  3. Click SmallMedium, or Large to select the size that works for you. 

Rearranging Your Dashboard Cards

You are welcome to order your dashboard cards however you'd like! To do so, simply drag and drop:

  1. Click-and-drag any dashboard card into the order you'd like. You are able to drag and drop the cards vertically and horizontally.
  2. Cards in motion will appear transparent until dropped into place.

 

Hiding a Dashboard Card

Keep in mind, when you hide a card with custom settings, those settings will not be saved when a card is hidden. To hide cards from your dashboard...

  1. Click the three-dot button at the top right of the card you'd like to remove.

  2. Select Hide from the dropdown.
