Connecting Haystack to Slack 🔗

📣 Only users with Workspace Admin permissions can configure the Slack integration. If you're unsure about your permissions, reach out to your platform admins or our team at support@haystackteam.com.

Connecting Haystack to Slack (The Setup)

The first step is simply linking the two tools. This process will not start sending notifications yet; it just establishes the connection.

  1. Click the account dropdown arrow in the top right corner of your screen and select Admin Console.

  2. In the menu on the left, select Integrations.

  3. Toggle ON the Haystack Slack App. This will prompt you to accept the integration requirements in a pop-up window. (Check with your Slack admin or IT if you run into any permission roadblocks.)

  4. You'll know the integration is complete when the toggle turns bright and colorful!

Configuring Notifications by Group (The Activation)

Once the global connection is established, you must connect specific Haystack groups to specific Slack channels. Notifications for new posts and events will then send automatically.

📌 If you have not yet launched Haystack to your team, we strongly suggest configuring your Slack notifications AFTER you launch. Once you connect your groups to Slack, notifications send automatically, which could accidentally trigger pre-launch communications!

(As previously mentioned, you must be a Workspace Admin, Group Admin, or Group Owner to perform this step.)

  1. Visit the group you wish to connect to Slack.

  2. In the group header, click the dropdown arrow and select Settings.

  3. On the left, click Connect Slack.

  4. In the search bar, search for and select the Slack channel(s) you wish to link.

    • Note: Slack permissions only allow Haystack to connect to public channels in your Slack instance.

5. Once connected, posts and events shared in that Haystack group will automatically publish to the linked Slack channel(s).

What to Expect from Slack Notifications

New Post and New Event notifications shared to Slack will be branded with the visual assets, branding colors, and names you've configured for your workspace, ensuring they look native to your company culture!
