By integrating **Haystack** with Copilot users can leverage Copilot's advanced reasoning alongside your company's unique, internal data. Ask Copilot to synthesize internal strategies, draft client proposals using official brand collateral, or summarize recent leadership announcements. Instead of generating generic answers or relying on outdated uploads, Copilot queries your live Haystack environment securely, returning accurate, contextual responses complete with internal references. --- #### What is an MCP? Think of a **Model Context Protocol (MCP)** as a secure digital bridge between your AI engine (Copilot) and your internal repository (Haystack). We're building the next tools based on your feedback. --- #### Setup Prerequisites & Permissions - **MCP add-on:** Your Haystack workspace is licensed for MCP integrations. - **Copilot Studio access:** Haystack connects through an agent in Microsoft Copilot Studio. You'll need permission to create or edit agents there. \[Confirm required Microsoft license or role\] - **Official connector available:** Haystack's published MCP connector is listed in Copilot Studio. No client ID or secret is needed. - **User permissions:** The integration mirrors each user's Haystack permissions. Users can't view, retrieve, or create anything through Copilot that they couldn't in Haystack. --- #### Step-by-Step Guide 1. Sign in to Microsoft Copilot Studio, go to **Agents**, and select **Create new agent** (or open an existing one). Give it a name and description. 2. Add instructions for the agent, for example telling it to use Haystack to answer questions about your company. Optional: under **Knowledge**, remove **Search all websites** so the agent answers only from Haystack. 3. Go to **Tools**, select **Add a tool**, search for **Haystack**, and select it. 4. Choose which Haystack tools the agent can use. Leave the write tools off for a search-only agent. 5. Create a connection, enter your workspace name, sign in with your Haystack account, and approve access. 6. Test the agent by asking: “What can you do with the Haystack connector?” 7. **Publish** the agent, then open **Availability options** to submit it to your org catalog or share it with specific people. 8. A Microsoft admin approves the agent in the Microsoft 365 admin center. Once approved, your team can chat with it in Copilot and Microsoft Teams. 💡 **Seeing "search" only in the connector's description?** That's expected. The directory listing describes search, but the connector supports both search and creation. --- #### Best Practices - **Prompt for citations:** Ask for sources (e.g., "Summarize our travel policy from Haystack and cite the page title"). - **Build purpose-specific agents:** A search-only agent for company-wide Q&A and a separate agent with write tools for your comms team keeps things simple. - **Save posts as drafts first:** Review and publish in Haystack. - **Keep credentials private:** Always log in through the secure sign-in window. #### Need More Help? - **Chat with us:** Available via the support bubble on this page.
