🔒 Connecting a Private Slack Channel to a Haystack Group

📌 Note: Only Group Admins of the respective Haystack Group can connect channels.

  • What is connected? The connection uses the Slack Channel ID, which ensures the link is secure and points only to the specified private channel.

  • Visibility:

    • The linked private channel will appear alongside public Slack channels within the Haystack group interface.

    • On the group's About page, the channel will be clearly marked as "private channel" to maintain confidentiality and prevent exposing the channel name to all group members.

Part 1: Finding the Slack Private Channel ID

You must be a member of the private Slack channel to perform these steps.

  1. Open Slack and navigate to the private channel you wish to connect.

  2. Right-click on the channel name in the left sidebar.

  3. In the context menu that appears, click on "View channel details".

  4. In the channel details window, scroll down until you see the Channel ID (it usually starts with a C or G and is followed by a string of alphanumeric characters, e.g., C012A3B456D).

  5. Click the "Copy" button next to the Channel ID, or select the entire ID and copy it (Ctrl+C or Cmd+C).

💡 Note: The Channel ID is a secure identifier that allows Haystack to make the connection without exposing the channel's actual name to the public. Keep this ID copied for the next steps.

Part 2: Connecting the Private Channel in Haystack

Once you have the Channel ID, you can link it to your Haystack Group.

  1. Go to Haystack and navigate to the group you are an Admin for and want to connect the channel to.

  2. Access Group Settings: Click on the drop-down arrow located under the group banner (usually next to the group's name).

  3. From the drop-down menu, select "Settings."

  4. In the Settings menu on the left side, click on "Connect Slack."

  5. Look for the option to add a private channel and click "Add a Private Channel."
